Provident Behavioral Health exists to build brighter futures through exceptional behavioral health services. To succeed, they create an environment where people feel comfortable and empowered to be their authentic selves.

PBH acknowledges there is work to do within their walls, throughout our region, and across the world. They are responsible for promoting greater diversity, equity, and inclusion – of voices, ideas, and approaches – in our organization so we can help improve the lives of every person touched by Provident’s work

History

Before the start of the Civil War; Lincoln would be elected in November. James Yeatman, a banker from Tennessee, had recently moved to the City of St. Louis. He noticed the homeless and hungry on the sidewalks. He and several business leaders founded Provident to help those in need. The agency flourished, providing services to the most vulnerable in the community.

Three prominent organizations had their start at Provident and eventually spun off as separate institutions. Eventually, the agency continued to evolve and expand to its present mission. They became known as Provident Behavioral Health in April 2019. Additionally, they formed a new partnership with Mary Ryder Home in fall 2019 to expand mental health services to St. Louis’s older adults.
