Center for Hearing & Speech

M1 Bank was pleased to donate to the Center for Hearing & Speech this year.

The Center for Vision & Learning opened its doors on August 1st, 2005. Drs. Cheryl Davidson and Gail Doell founded the practice to provide pediatric optometric services for the St. Louis and surrounding areas. After that, Dr. Lisa Schembri joined the practice in 2006 to offer expanded office hours and services to help adults improve their vision and rehabilitate after stroke or injury.  In February, 2023, CVS moved to our current location at 1000 Des Peres Road in Des Peres, MO.

CVS evaluates and treats patients of all ages for functional visual conditions. These include tracking difficulties, binocular vision problems, vision-related learning difficulties, sports performance, autism or other medical conditions, and visual rehabilitation.

This organization offers in-office vision therapy to remediate, rehabilitate and enhance visual skills. Their practice employs seven vision therapists and one occupational therapist, and we provide one-on-one visual treatment for patients of all ages. Each patient’s plan of care is designed individually for their personal goals and needs.

The Center for Vision & Learning has a full-service optical dispensary for all ages. The dispensary includes a full line of sports frames for children and teens. They also fit and dispense contact lenses. Doctors at CVS perform specialty prism and lens tint testing for functional and rehabilitative purposes.

CVS are the first providers in the St. Louis area to offer the EyeSync technology. EyeSync is an FDA-cleared assessment battery to record and analyze eye-tracking impairment.  All of their doctors are EyeSync certified.

Vision Therapy

Vision therapy is a sequence of brain-based exercises to guide the visual system into a more efficient pattern. Markedly, you can think of it as physical therapy for the eyes: we are teaching the visual system to function in a better way. Each patient receives an individually-prescribed regimen, based on his or her symptoms and needs.

Vision therapy is not tutoring. We do not instruct our patients in reading or other academic subjects. But vision therapy can improve the visual skills that may be affecting reading.
